Scarcity of Drinking Water in Baraipur Baraipur, 24th September: A droughtlike situation has affected in and around Baraipur. About 10,000 families have been affected to the worse. All the tanks and wells of the region have gone dry. There is no tubewell in the nearby village. There is only one river flowing through the locality, but its water is highly polluted. Increase in population has worsened the condition. Along with the people the domestic animals also have been suffering from the acute shortage of water. A local N. G. O. has come forward for the remedy of the problem, but their endeavour to dig and plant tube-well have proved futile as the water level has gone down. Till this report no government measure has been envisaged to be taken.(Local Correspondent, The Assam Tribune).
